11 JOURNAL QUESTIONS TO SELF REFLECT

I don’t know about you, but I put a lot of pressure on myself this time of year — resolutions, intention setting, manifestations, vision boarding etc. If you know me, you know I love rituals, but it dawned on me that all of these are future-focused. The power may be in the now, but the past holds powerful wisdom.

How The Energy of The Past Can Manifest Physically In The Present —

Energetically, we compartmentalize emotional vibrations of past experiences — even past lives.

Think of your cells as little lockers that hold files to all of your has-beens since birth. That’s how trauma can get stuck in your body. Louise Hay was a thought pioneer that created the idea that your emotions can cause dis-ease in your body, manifesting disease and physical disorders. She believed that every part of your physical body is related to an emotional center.

Shoulders are associated with joy. We are meant to carry joy not burdens. Your stomach is related to how we process ideas and feelings. Insomnia is associated with not trusting the process of life.

I’ve copied her A to Z list for your browsing pleasure below and see here for a list of associated healing affirmations.

I remember in one of my very first energy healing sessions I spoke of a dull pain in my left shoulder. I actually still have it today. Doctors say there’s nothing wrong, maybe a past pulled muscle that didn’t heal properly. However, my healer told me nonchalantly that it’s an ailment from a past life — literally she told me that as if she was telling me the sky was blue. A bow and arrow perhaps in a battle? When I see a past life regression healer (if you’re here, email me), I’ll be sure to let you all know.

Back to the present.

Grab a pen and let’s dive into how to intentionally self reflect.

First, let it all out in a vision dump, or what Julia Cameron calls “morning pages.” There is so much power in putting a pen to paper. Write whatever comes to your mind to clear the mundane and get to the real magic. Cameron suggests at least 3 pages, a benchmark I follow today.

Writing is a form of meditation & hypnosis. As we write, we delve deeper into our subconscious, unearthing thought gems that can surprise & enlighten us, shifting our overall perspective & path.

Oftentimes I re-read my morning pages and double-take at some of the things I jotted down. Writing is where past, present & future energies intersect.

Now, let’s get into the questions. A balance of macro questions (umbrella themes from this past year) before drilling down into the micro, specific intentions and goals, is best.

Ready to reflect, receive and find a renewed sense of clarity?

Here are 11 Journal Questions to Reflect on This Past Year

  1. What was the primary theme of this past year? (ex: work, love, health, relationships, etc.)

  2. What energized you the most this past year? Think: people, experiences, rituals, products etc.
