A summer Friday to most may include a cheeky beach excursion. To others — side glance, me — it’s deemed a grand opportunity to rendezvous with the Akashic Records, also known as the “DNA of the universe,” as told by Deepak Chopra.
Perched atop my vanity stool, I soaked up the afternoon rays in the sun-drenched corner of my bedroom. I lit some white sage to clear any stagnant energy, followed by a palo santo smoke serenade to call in support from my spirit guides. I was meant to be grounded in nature, but the humidity heralded me back into the AC.
Alternatively, I surrounded myself with the natural elements — a clunk of amethyst crystal, a teeny succulent, and a spritz of rose water. I also cracked my bedroom porch door open for some fresh air. The entire gaia gang was accounted for.
Before dialing in to connect with Jess, my Chief of Staff meets Intuitive Healer (as one has when running a Conscious Marketing Consultancy), I allowed my mind to wander in self inquiry.
WHAT ARE THE AKASHIC RECORDS & WHY AM I DRAWN TO THEM?
The Akashic Records are known to be a cosmic archive of every soul that ever was — a magical Harry Potter library of sorts where you can connect to any soul’s lineage: yours, mine, and even the journey of any place or product.
If everything holds energy, everything has a story, right? There are past chronicles and future possibilities that lie within everything. Consider the records a portal to connect with these stories — all versions of selves. It’s a space to chew on the existential questions that, if you’re anything like me (and likely you are if you're reading this), you explore on a daily basis.
Why am I here?
What am I here to create in this lifetime?
What is my soul’s journey?
How can I raise my vibrational frequency to serve the highest good?
How can I feel whole?
The records are literally infinite. It’s a place where we touch everything, everywhere, and nothing, all at once.
Picture this: Our souls hold many lifetimes of wisdom within, while our external world holds infinite possibilities. When you stretch your hand out in front of you, it’s as if you’re cutting through infinite parallel dimensions living in a paper thin universe. Our souls are both limitless and a microscopic microcosm all at once.
Pretty woo, right? But also, the Akashic Records don’t have to be this far out phenom. It’s actually a very practical space as well. Similar to meditation, it’s a space where you can go to get to know yourself better over time so you can live a happier, more fulfilling life and share that energy with the world.
“The Akashic Records blew my mind because it was so stabilizing. I opened my records every day for a year before I read for other people. I think that's something that is very important, I feel, in any spiritual practice.” says Malorine Mathurin in my latest Growing FWD: interview.
If you’re reading this, it’s actually likely you’ve accessed your records before — very likely when you were a kid: curious, filled with levity, and vibrating at an extremely high frequency. Or perhaps you opened the records during your most recent meditations or healing sessions.
The beauty of the Records is that anyone can access them at any time. We’re all psychic to some degree, it’s our ability to be open to our gifts — feel them, believe them, and nurture them over time. Just like working out, you have to build that trust muscle. It’s a practice.
HOW TO APPROACH THE AKASHIC RECORDS
Whenever I have had profound spiritual moments (I can count these rare occasions on one hand by the way), it’s when I’ve truly dropped out of my head and into my heart center. No clinging, no reaching, but rather sitting in an empowered state of receiving.
When we open up to the Akashic Records or any realm of the “higher self” we open up to the totality of the universe. This is a space that Jess reminded me and my cerebral nature, we aren’t meant to fully understand as human beings. You may receive messages from the records that you won’t, and perhaps will never, understand. It’s our job to receive these messages and allow them to percolate with awareness and levity, letting them move through us rather than linger too long, insatiably unpacking them in effort to become fully healed — a misconstrued fallacy in the world of wellness.
When I enter a reading or a healing session seeking a little too much, I know I’m not at peace with the present. I’m living from a place of victimization and lack — of scarcity. If you feel called to access the records from this place of not-enoughness, try breathing into the back of your heart space. Connect with compassion for where you’ve been and gratitude for where you are today. It’s not always the love-and-light silver linings, but the meaning behind experiences that help you grow forward.
Just like Dani Beinstein reminded us in our interview “Navigting Cosmic Currents” that you can’t outsource your power to other healers and tools, the same holds true for the Akashic Records.
Loosen your grip and open up to the vast possibilities of what the records have to offer rather than seeking answers and control. How can you ask questions from a place of curiosity or an inquiry to improve rather than fix? Feel how this subtle shift in language sits lighter in your body.
HOW I ACCESSED THE RECORDS
Jess and I fell quiet as I expected a godly open sesame moment.
We didn’t proceed with Linda Howe’s prayer — although poetic and powerful. We didn’t ask any questions. We forgoed any further ritualization, and rather dropped into our intuitive knowing.
I sunk into the meditative state that I do almost every morning. My root chakra weighed heavy to the Earth while visualizing my crown chakra opening in a state of receipt. It was as if I turned on a spiritual tap and every cell in my body filled with light, tiny portals that connected to all of my ancestors, even those I didn’t expect.
There were animals, a snake and an owl, and the graceful wise presence of an old medicine woman that channeled through. These symbols spoke to me in ways in which I tried to interpret, but my soul continued to usher me back into a present state of surrender. There was an inner knowing that everything that came through was true and there was no need “to do” anything more. The messages were clear in that they simply were what they were. How liberating.
“I always say come (to the Akashic Records) with a clear head, mind and don't expect anything. Just trust whatever comes and that takes practice. That takes patience. That's where meditation comes in. That's where the embodiment comes in because you have to know yourself and really understand your clairs,” says Mathurin, Akashic Record reader.
When we closed the records, I again tuned into my intuition. I placed my hands on my chest, connected deeply to my heart-center again. I said thank you as I raised prayer hands to my third eye, trusting that the transmission will integrate as it’s meant to.
It wasn’t until we closed the records that I became conscious of just how luminous my energy felt. A dizzying amount of light was channeling through the crown of my head. I felt slightly disassociated, but also very grounded — like I was on a bridge between two worlds: the mystical and the mundane.
I made sure my schedule was cleared for the rest of the afternoon, but I still had a handful of tasks on my “Grateful To-Do” list. Those swiftly fell by the wayside as I slipped into the bath for an afternoon soak to integrate.
I sat in silence as I gawked at how extraordinary, yet so ordinary, opening the Akashic Records was. It was like a homecoming to a place I’ve never been before.
Everything, everywhere, and nothing, all at once.
LESSONS I LEARNED FROM ACCESSING THE RECORDS
The Akashic Records can only connect with a vessel that is clear
If you are feeling physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically overwhelmed, how can you offload? Move your body, talk to a friend, go to therapy, sage your apartment, donate some clothes you haven’t worn in years. See here for some other clearing practices and tips.
The Akashic Records act as a channel of self awareness and discovery
You don’t have to follow the method I listed above, but rather explore your own intuition and tune into what feels good to you. Experiment with Linda Howe’s opening prayer, dabble in meditation, practice reiki. Just like no one's healing journey is alike, the records will feel different for everyone.
The Akashic Records won’t solve everything for you
The Records will never have a definitive answer because we are not definitive beings. We live and breathe in the gray area. Change is constant. We are all consistently growing forwards, backwards and sideways.
Integrate with flow vs. force
Embrace integration of any channeled wisdom with sacred slowness. There is no need to rush or force integration right away, but rather trust that what was channeled to you will embody in due time. Take aligned action and know that divine timing is flawless. Whenever in doubt, drop into your heart-center — this is the chakra center where your physical world integrates with the spiritual. Your body knows how to grow forward when the mind is too muddled to listen.
Stay open and nonjudgemental
When you are connected to and speaking from a place of wholehearted truth, messages will be channeled more clearly and with ease. This is the case both in a reading or when opening the Records yourself. Are you speaking from a place of ego or from a place of heart-centered truth?
The Akashic Records are a path to remember
The Records are a channel for you to remember your soul's lineage, your ancestors, and your purest, fullest authentic expression that you are meant to embody in this lifetime.

🗄️ OBJECTS OF AFFECTION: AKASHIC RECORDS
Third eye palo santo: to connect with your soul squad (AKA your “guides”). I stumbled upon these sustainably-harvested palo santo sticks at my all-time favorite raw vegan restaurant, Thrive, in Boulder. They are the real deal — bold in scent and color. Shitty sticks are typically more white in color and faint in scent.
Ellingwood Farm: to reset in nature and connect with an aligned, conscious community. This 34-acre healing haven in upstate New York is the idyllic space to host or attend your next wellness retreat. Disrobe your corporate self and step into a conscious space of supportive, soul-centered growth.
Sakara Fall Reset: to keep your body strong and energy clear. Spoiler alert, this new program is launching next week and I’m giving it a test ride. I’ve been eating Sakara for nearly six years now — I ate it during cancer treatment when I first began to dabble in plant-forward eating. I genuinely can’t recommend their programs enough. Not to mention they make my typical work week lunch scramble stress free. “XOKARALADD” for 20% off
Karst Stonepaper Journals: to write and release what’s on your mind. These notebooks are made of recycled stone. My pen glides on the pages like butter — perfect for those flow-state vision dumps.
Golden Thread Virtual Tarot: to practice asking from a place of empowered, heart-centered receipt — when you’re on-the-go or untethered from your tools.
